It takes time to get a fair amount of organic search engine traffic. Search engines do not like brand new websites. They like the more established sites that have a lot of people linking to them, in order to prove that they are reliable. As a result, get links from other bloggers, directories, other sites that have a good reputation in the eyes of search engines is very important.
Remember to check the PageRank of a website before linking to it (just a link to pages with a list of 2 or higher.) Began to grow as your blog has more pages and more links to search engines will start sending more and more traffic. This is a good thing! But, as I said before, google is very cautious on new websites - so time is your ally when it comes to search engines.
SEO: Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is a science/art that focuses on getting your website or blog to the top of the search engine listings. Being at the top of Google's (or yahoo or bing) results for any decent keywords can be a great source of traffic and the best part about it is that it is FREE TRAFFIC!!!
What you need to remember about search engines (especially Google) is that they are trying to create the perfect system, so that any user can find exactly what they want. Google wants to show the sites most relevant to their research. They will never get a perfect system, but they probably will not stop trying. If you can keep that in mind, it will be very useful when trying to optimize your blog.
Do not waste your time trying to deceive them, they will discover and punish you for that. Just focus on making it very clear to them what your site is about, and write good content for your audience and the rest will take care of itself.
Moving on to SEO. These are some of the most important (to me) pieces of SEO that every beginner must know. If you do this correctly, you will be much better off than most people who know nothing about SEO.
1. Title Tags. This is probably the single most important part of on-page SEO. The title tag of your website is what shows up in the top of your browser window. It is also one of the most important determining factors that the search engines use to determine what your site is about. You WILL want to make sure that your title tags contain the keywords that you want to rank for in the search engines. If your site is about rock climbing, you will not want to have "welcome to Toms blog" in the title tags. Something better would be "Rock climbing 101 | the best rock climbing techniques"
2. Anchor Text. Anchor text is the text that people use when connecting through links. For example, if I created a link to a "general search" and the link leads to Google.com and click "general search" is thus the anchor text. The anchor text is a important because it tells search engines what your site is bout. Google finds it really important what the words in the anchor text are.
Of course, you will not be able to control how others link to your site at all times. But for those times when you can, you should use the best keywords as possible. Links to other pages and posts on its website, directory submissions, blog carnivals, and your signature line in the forums can be good places to make sure you get the keywords in your anchor text.
3. Keyword Research. If you are trying to get traffic from search engines, it is always a good idea to know what people are searching for before you start writing. I often use Aaron Wall's keyword tool and run some keyword ideas through it to get estimates of how many people are searching for them. Google also provides keyword research.
4. Get Links. We talked lightly the importance of links coming to your blog. Another great advantage in improving their search rankings, also send visitors to your site. This is an obvious advantage, but often overlooked by those who focus on SEO.
If you get a link from a blog that receives many visitors, you could see a huge increase in traffic. If you get a lot of links from blogs, and you could see the visitors who come for the most part. Maybe not a group, but as more links, you will see more visitors to come. Ultimately it is about building a link to create something great that people want to link. If you can still do many other things fall into place.
